Morning departure from the hotel. We make the first stop in Škocjan Caves, one of the most beautiful wonders in Slovenia that have their place on the UNESCO World heritage list. Here we will enter a spectacular cave system with nice stalactites, stalagmites, and other rocks, but what sets this cave apart from other caves is the underground Reka river and the largest discovered underground cavern in all Europe (and one of the largest in the world). We continue our trip to the Lipica Stud Farm, famous for the white Lipizzaner horses that are bred and trained there, and take part in the guided tour of the farm or even see the Riding School of the Lipica Stud Farm in action. Time for picnic in beautiful nature. As this is a well-known wine area with excellent wines, we visit one of the many wine cellars. While tasting some of the local wines we learn about the wine making process. Afterwards we drive to Štanjel, one of the oldest settlements in the Karst, known for its old village centre. The village is built on the picturesque terraces of Turn Hill, catching the eye with its famous buildings and its unique panoramic views. We see the city’s major sights: *The castle of Štanjel, the Church of St. Daniel and the Ferrari Garden. Our last stop is the ham-drying facility, where we see the production of the famous Slovenian dried-ham – prosciutto. Tasting of Karst dry-cured ham ‘’pršut’’ with a glass of local red wine ‘’Teran’’. Return to hotel in the late evening.
*The castle of Štanjel is closed until May 2020.
